Death Claims Andrew Bates

Andrew Bates, resident of the Sebastopol area, died yesterday in a hospital here at the age of 78. He was a native of Iowa.

His wife, Alice Bates; two daughters, Mrs. A. G. Niel of Potter valley and Mrs. Etta V. Davis of Sacramento, and three sons, William A. Bates, Westwood; Orval L. Bates, Bremerton, Washington, and C. L. Bates, Sebastopol, survive.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon in the O’Leary chapel in Sebastopol, with burial in the Green Valley cemetery.” [2]

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the O’Leary Funeral Home for Andrew Bates, local resident who died Saturday in Santa Rosa. Interment followed in the Green Valley cemetery.

Bates, a native of Iowa, died at the age of 78 years. He was the husband of Alice Bates and the father of C. L. Bates of Sebastopol, Orval L. Bates of Bremerton, Washington, William A. Bates of Westwood, Mrs. Etta V. Davis of Sacramento and Mrs. A. G. Niel of Potter Valley.” [3]

MANTECA, Feb 2 — Mrs. Alice Anette Bates, 83, of 406 E. Edison, died early today in a Murphys hospital following a long illness.

Funeral services are pending in the Salas Bros-Moore Mortuary in Modesto.

A native of Missouri, Mrs. Bates had resided here the past three years. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church of Pasadena.

Mrs. Bates is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Etta Whitfield of Manteca and Mrs. Eula Neil of Modesto; a son Chester L. Bates of Spokane, Wash.; a sister, Clara Arehart of Harbor City; 10 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.” [13]
